Former Top 10 Players Lead Strong Player Field
TYLER (October 16, 2018) -- Former top 10 players Eugenie Bouchard and Belinda Bencic are among the notable player acceptances into the 2018 RBC Pro Challenge presented by Oak Creek, an $80K USTA Pro Circuit event. The USTA and ITF announced the official acceptance list last week, which includes 10 American women in the main draw and with another 16 provisionally confirmed for the qualifying draw.
Bouchard is a 24-year-old Canadian who reached a career high ranking of number 5 in the world in 2014, a year in which she also reached the final of Wimbledon. Bencic, 21, ascended to as high as world number 7 in 2016 and has reached the second week of major tournaments four times in her career.
"We had a strong field last year, and it’s gone up a notch in 2018," said Scott McCulloch, Tournament Organizer. "These are some of the absolute best players in the world, with a handful of our players having competed for grand slam titles. And as always, it’s great to see a strong group of American women in the field who will undoubtably receive great crowd support.”
Other notable entrants include defending champion Kristie Ahn(USA), former world number 26 Lauren Davis(USA) and Nicole Gibbs(USA). Additionally, young Americans Claire Liu, Ashley Kratzer and Whitney Osuigwe will look to springboard their promising careers by performing well in Tyler. In total, players from 18 countries will compete for valuable ranking points and prize money.
The 2nd annual RBC Pro Challenge will begin Sunday, October 28th and run through until Sunday, November 4th.
